2012 Greek Week Raises $11,600 for Local Non-Profits
This year the fraternity and sorority community launched its inaugural Greek Week Mini-Grant program to aid local non-profit organizations serving the Boone and Watauga County communities. Thirty-seven community partners submitted grant requests of which four were selected. This year’s recipients of the 2012 Greek Week Mini-Grant are: The Boone Bicycle Initiative, The Children’s Playhouse, Mountain Alliance and the Watauga County Habitat for Humanity.
This year the fraternity and sorority community raised $13,000 during the community’s annual Greek Week competition. Greek Week is a time in the spring when the members of the fraternity and sorority community come together around events of celebration. Fraternity and sorority chapters competed to win points to determine who the Greek Week champions were. Points are determined by who wins events and/or who has the highest participation and contributes the most to the community service effort. Events during 2012 Greek Week included a lip sync competition, an academic bowl, a canned food drive, and athletic events and games.
Greek Week is coordinated by the governing councils/associations of the Fraternity and Sorority Community, with assistance from the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life and the Center for Student Involvement and Leadership.
